5 Tips for Making Memorable Stories.
Great storytelling renders entertainment unforgettable. Whether it be the connection to the plot, characters, or cinematography that left audiences speechless, the influence of quality storytelling is powerful. Ensuring that your company is producing content that leaves a lasting impact is essential in gaining a competitive edge.
While there is no secret formula to creating an exceptional story for a video, there are things that you can do to elevate the video’s storyline.
1. Focus on emotion
Every aspect of video content should communicate emotion. The script, actors, cinematography, lighting, props, and music should all have an active purpose in creating an emotional journey. Always begin brainstorming with a relatable premise that can appeal to the target audience. From there one can easily introduce conflict and resolution, giving the story a full arc.
2. Change perspective
It is imperative to create storylines appealing to your target audience. While your job may be to sell a product or service, the intention of your story is to turn the audience into the consumer. Thus, understanding their wants and needs is critical.
The target audience should be your entire focus when creating marketing material. For example, if you are selling kids’ toys, tell your story from the perspective of a child. In this way, your viewers will find your story more relatable and memorable.
3. Be natural and informal
All the video content you create should take on a natural tone. The vocalization should sound familiar and informal, instead of forced or fake. The language should consist of universal vocabulary, something easily understandable. As well as making the tone of the video easily approachable, you should also ensure that it caters to your target audience.
4. Think about your visuals
Video is such a remarkable medium as it enables you to communicate stories without words or sound. The visuals of a video are its selling point. Graphics considerably influence the audience's emotions. Dark colors and bare backgrounds convey sorrow, emptiness, loneliness, melancholy. Bright, bold colors express hope, happiness, excitement. When creating your visuals, keep in mind that every color, word, and form displayed on-screen will be interpreted by the audience.
5. Use sound to enhance the visual
Graphics and sound are two elements that harmoniously work together. Sound works within a more confined set of variables than visuals. When choosing what kind of noise to accompany your visuals, you must think about how it can complete the image. Basic ambient sound helps the viewer focus more wholly on the visuals. Music without dialogue sets the mood. Narration helps in chronicling a story. Using a combination of these sound techniques creates more dynamic and engaging videos.
Regardless of the type of video you create, your primary goal should be telling a good story.
